Oxfam Trailwalker, one of Hong Kong’s largest and most popular hiking fundraisers, is scheduled to be held on 18 — 20 November 2011. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Oxfam Trailwalker. It is a team event, with 4 members, aim to complete the 100km East-West trail across Hong Kong within 48 hours, from Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung (Start Point) to Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club, Tai Tong Holiday Camp in Yuen Long (Finish Point). Oxfam Trailwalker (previously named ‘Trailwalker’) began in Hong Kong in 1981 as a Gurkha-led training for the army — only soldiers, and only men, joined. It has since grown into one of the world’s largest hiking events, now held in 15 cities in Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney), Belgium, Canada, China (Hong Kong), England (South Downs, Yorkshire Dales), France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain. In 2012, India will also host Oxfam Trailwalker. Oxfam Trailwalker is Oxfam Hong Kong’s flagship fundraiser. More than 69000 walkers have raised over HK$340 million in donations (since 1986) to support Oxfam’s various poverty alleviation and emergency relief projects in Africa and Asia, including Hong Kong and mainland China. The fundraising target this year is HK$30 million. This money is crucial as we work to reduce poverty among men, women and children, in urban and rural areas, in Hong Kong and abroad, regardless of race, religion or political beliefs.

laurashigihara.bandcamp.com ^Plants vs. Zombies Soundtrack Sale (all proceeds til March 27th will be donated to help the relief efforts in Japan) www.mercycorps.org ^MercyCorps Fundraising Page This is my cover of Kyu Sakamoto’s “Ue o Muite Aruko.” I was inspired to sing this because of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan… Many of my relatives are still missing, and my heart goes out to them and to all those who died or are suffering through this ordeal. I’ve always thought this was a beautiful song… it’s about keeping a smile on your face and hope in your heart even though times are really tough.
